Bar path: where the bar went, and how fast, rep by rep
In barbell video filmed from the side, MovePath follows the plate to draw the bar's path and gives mean speed and distance for every rep. The analysis runs on the phone.
Front-side diagonal view60 fps if possibleResults in m/s and cm
What it measures
MovePath follows the centre of the plate to draw the bar path, and uses the plate diameter as a ruler to convert on-screen movement into metres and centimetres. Pick a competition or bumper plate (450 mm) or enter the diameter.
The app finds the plate automatically. If it can't, tap the top edge and the bottom edge of the plate once each.
With the same load, a bar drifting away from the body or reps slowing down are hard to count by eye. A recorded path and speed let you show exactly where the bar went.
Where to put the phone
- From the front-side diagonal (30–45°)2–3 m away with the plate in the middle of the frame.
- Phone fixed upright at hip heightIf the phone moves while filming, the path wobbles.
- 60 fps if possibleThe app camera asks for 60 fps. You can also pick a video you've already filmed.
What the report shows
- Bar pathDrawn over the video.
- Mean speed and distance per repIn m/s and cm, with reps counted automatically.
- Peak speed and left–right ProEstimated peak speed and how much the bar moves side to side.
- Velocity loss ProHow much the reps slow down, as a percentage of the first rep's mean speed.
- Live bar path ProWhile filming with the app camera, it locks on to the plate and draws the path and speed on screen.
- Motion analysis ProChoose the lift and it finds the joints, measures joint angles through the lift and compares them side by side with last time's video.
- Save to the client's record ProKeep the bar path result with a note in the client's record.
Please note
Speed carries error from camera angle and frame rate, so don't use it to choose the load. MovePath is not a medical device. This test records measurements to guide exercise; it is not a diagnosis. App readings may differ from a goniometer, tape measure or stopwatch. Use them to compare the same client's first test with today's, measured the same way.
